Last week a group of about 30 vandals known as Pixadores stormed a contemporary street art gallery in Sao Paulo, Brazil known as the Choque Cultural Gallery. The recent protest (known as a pixação), promoted their mission with a flyer seeking all affiliates and members to ban together in the fight against “marketing, institutionalization and domestication of Street Art”. The works of such known artists as Titi Freak, Gerald Laing, and Speto were defaced.
As a result tensions are heating up between the Pixos movement and the Graffiti writers which may potentially lead to an all out street war of the fittest.
We say, this is deeply disturbing on all levels. What are your thoughts? Stay in the know as we will keep you posted.
