After returning from South Beach this past March attending the Red Bull Guest House events during music conference week, we were wondering what the RBMA have been cooking up for the NYC circuit. Well music lovers, get ready as you’ll able to indulge in a month long marathon of artists showcases and discussion panels beginning this April 28th through May 31st scheduled to take place at various locations around Manhattan and Brooklyn. If the activation events are anything like yesterday’s pop-up percussion performance between the legendary Rahzel and Questlove, rest in knowing they are going to be some of the most sought after parties to attend this season.
Artist and DJ involvement include such pioneers as Afrika Banbataa, Schoolly D, to a discussion with Erykah Badu, Lee ‘Scratch’ Perry, electronic synth legends Giorgio Moroder, Brian Eno and Ryuichi Sakamoto, international legends of house music Masters At Work, along with contemporary EDM talents Skream and Flying Lotus. About Red Bull Music Academy:
The Red Bull Music Academy is a world-travelling series of music workshops and festivals: a platform for those who make a difference in today’s musical landscape. This year we’re bringing together two groups of 31 selected participants – producers, vocalists, DJs, instrumentalists and all-round musical mavericks from around the world – in New York City. For two weeks, each group will hear lectures by musical luminaries, work together on tracks and perform in the city’s best clubs and music halls. Imagine a place that’s equal parts science lab, the Hanging Gardens of Babylon and Kraftwerk’s home studio. Throw in a touch of Haight-Ashbury circa 1967, a sprinkle of Prince Jammy’s mixing board and Bob Moog’s synthesizer collection – all in a 22nd century remix – and you’re halfway there.
The Academy began back in 1998, and has been traversing the globe since: from Berlin to Cape Town, São Paulo, Barcelona, London, Toronto and many other places.
