Ports 1961 has some changes within it’s creativeteam. As original designer Tia Cibani steps down and sister Fiona steps up. For the upcoming Spring/Summer 2011 collection, the sketch shows earth inspired/warm colored tones mixed with a comfortable sensibility along with ageless appeal. Fiona says she “draws inspiration from the magic allure of the desert. With delicate mirage abstractions and a landscape in constant evolution as her muse.” We’re envisioning seamless blends of fabric with effortless wearability.

H&M takes a very clever approach with their next major Fall ’10 collaboration that includes a viral teaser campaign featuring seven videos. Since the release of the first set of videos two days ago, devout brand lovers have been brought to a dizzying state mixed with both excitement and confusion trying to figure out who the next feature designer will be. Numerous names have been circulating that include Tomas Maier, Carolina Herrera, Lucas Ossendrijver to name a few. There is one name that many believe to be the the confirmed frontrunner, Alber Elbaz, artistic director for Lanvin. Regardless of chosen designer, shoppers will have the opportunity to purchase high end creations at a fraction of the cost, and that’s got us completely on board with curiosity as well. Gear up for a fall flattering season courtesy of Hellz. The ever growing woman’s contemporary brand calls out all the stops with their newest collection entitled The Rest Is Her Story. Delivery I includes a very retro-rock and sophisticated selection of black, white, and grey tones bursting with cut & sew options that include stand out essentials like a striped fantasy puff sleeve and bow accented blouse, tent tanks, and a knock out gun holster style shoulder bag we are loving. This Fall 2010 marks the growth of Hellz, with a more experimental venture entitled ‘The Rest Is Her Story,’ a collection that conveys a classic story of vengeance while simultaneously exuding sensuality and ferocity. Drawing inspiration from revenge and exploitation films such as ‘Lady Snowblood’ and ‘Thriller,’ the collection makes use of a dark color palette to embody the mood & feel of both films. Black, white, and texture are prevalent throughout the collection and accentuate the unorthodox but innovative silhouettes with leather, trims and details. Pieces like the ‘Alice,’ a fitted blazer with exaggerated shoulders and back ruffle detail inspired by anti-heroines who display great strength and confidence while maintaining beauty and grace. Another interesting piece from the collection is the ‘Wonderland, ‘ a fine cotton jersey printed tunic with metal hooks and eye trims, that not only demonstrates the boldness and convention of film vixens, but the brand as a whole as well. A subtle color story, intelligent and experimental silhouettes and contrasting metal details culminate in an exhibition of daring feminine sexuality and confidence, truly proving that ‘The Rest Is Her Story.’

This past Thursday industry along with a few lucky fans were treated by Cherrytree Records to celebrate the new upcoming album and label release of Free Wired by LA based music group Far East Movement. Held rooftop courtesy of the Above Allen lounge in the Thompson Hotel-LES, guests mingled and enjoyed complimentary appetizers and cocktails along with the advance listen to the groups album and first single Like A G6 with production support and an appearance by Grammy aware winning team The Stereotypes. Comprised of four members- Kev Nish, Prohgress,
J-Splif, and DJ Virman maintain their own unique sound fueled by layers of electro bass heavy and hip hop hybrid beats. Their style and identity is apparent when meeting them flossed in crisp attire, along with a hands on approach developing their brand and music. With a pleasant attitude and pro-active approach interacting with media and music lovers, the Far East Movement are a refreshing new collective to look out for this coming fall. Prepare yourself this fall season as there is a new nighclub set to open its doors in NYC. Under the distinct name of District 36, guests will have the opportunity to let their hair down with a state of the art custom-built sound system that will encompass three-levels courtesy of nightclub specialists Gary Stewart audio. District 36 will include Taimur Agha brought on board as Music Director, along with Lee Blume as Special Events Director who will head up the new venture. A new beacon for New York nightlife will be ignited this fall in the heart of Manhattan – DISTRICT 36. The brand new, custom-built nightclub injects originality and vitality into the scene and will once again put forth New York City at the center of global clubbing.

District 36 will also feature the next incarnation of Victor Calderone’s illustrious EVOLVE DJ residency.
