The universe of Keith Haring

Somehow mysteriously the hour long documentary below that we posted last week has been taken down. Could it possibly be a copyright and licensing rights related issue? I wouldn’t be surprised, as I personally dealt with these kind of dreaded issues for 8 years when I worked with MTV- Yeah, I admit it..I worked as a drone for the corporate hog and lived to tell the story. Thankfully we have a little something to replenish you all with. It has come to our attention that there is a new documentary currently being shown entitled “The Universe of Keith Haring” directed by Christina Clausen, with its theme song by DJ Junior Vasquez. (Wow- can you say Tunnel, NYC circa 1990’s) unfortunately it is only available in Canada, Europe and Brazil right now. We’ll be sure to keep you posted on this though.

Originally broadcasted on Dutch televison by AVRO, the documentary explores the street art movement in the 1980s, and the massive influence Keith Haring left on the pop culture movement. Nearly an hour of video, it is in English and subtitled in Dutch. It is produced by Overcom & French Conecction Films & Absolute Film with co-production by Avro.

Last week we dropped the image of Banksy’s “I Love NYC Rat” commissioned by Collosal Media. He has struck once again with a new mural depicting that of a shady business rat with tie, wrist cuff’s, umbrella, and suitcase in hand leaking cash. We say, Hmmm, could this have anything to do with the current state of affairs down on Wall Street? You be the judge.

This past Saturday a huge 3-story Banksy installation went up on a building wall located in Soho at Wooster and Grand street. The commissioned work is of a huge rat donning an “I Heart NY” t-shirt, and was painted by Collosal Media. Banksy makes special attempts by staying out of the media keeping his true identity clouded in mystery. The British graffiti artist is known for his satirical commentary through his artwork often composed of politics and culture. Graffiti Vandal or Graffertisment, what are your thoughts? Peep the latest work to hit the NYC.
